IAB Director's Office
The assistant to the director manages the director's schedule, faculty annual activity reports, faculty files, research scientist contracts, and director's discretionary fund; collects institute information for reports and UAF's electronic directory (eDIR); is the primary contact for IAB fellowships and travel awards; assists with conference and event planning and faculty recruitments; oversees mail distribution; and acts as institute liaison for research permits. The information and communication office provides strategic advice and technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students regarding communication, media, and outreach for internal and external audiences. Services include communication audits and strategic planning, news releases, public service announcements, brochures, Web content, article writing, media relations and media relations training, and conference media planning. Proposal coordinators provide pre-award support including proposal formatting, preparation of budgets and budget narratives, compilation of required documentation, coordination with the UAF office of sponsored programs, and electronic submission. Email: UAF-IAB-Proposals@alaska.edu.
The laboratory safety officer provides technical advice and services related to environmental health, regulatory, and related safety concerns for institute faculty, staff, and students in coordination with the UAF fire marshal and UAF environmental health, safety, and risk management. The safety officer also coordinates training in field safety and hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal. Services are provided to ensure compliance with applicable regulations while not impeding research and teaching activities. Email: UAF-IAB-Safety@alaska.edu.
The information technology (IT) staff provides direct computer support, network maintenance and backup, and website design and development. Responsibilities include software installation, hardware and software troubleshooting, new computer set-up, individual and group education/training, and custom dynamic web applications for IAB and B&W. IT staff also develop and administer servers and websites for the Toolik Field Station (TFS), Spatial Ecology Lab, National Park Service, and the Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.
