Welcome to the IAB Computer Support web site. The Institute of Arctic Biology, in conjuction with the Department of Biology and Wildlife and the Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, provides a number of computer resources for faculty, staff and students.
IAB and the Department of Biology and Wildlife maintain a server called Mercury. This computer functions as a web server, an FTP server, a file server, and an application server. To use Mercury, employees and students need to obtain a Mercury account. Applications for accounts can be obtained from Carol Piser in the Biology and Wildlife office (211 Irving I, x7100, email). More information about Mercury can be viewed on the Mercury Home Page. If you need to install the Novell Login client on your computer to gain access to Mercury, click here to download the Novell Client.
IAB and the Department also maintain a computer lab in 303 Irving I. See the Computer Lab page or the link above for more information. Note that you must have a Mercury account in order to log in to the Computer Lab computers. For a schedule of classes held in the lab, see IRV 303 Calendar
If you are looking for links to various downloads, you have come to the right spot. UAF and IAB logos in resolutions suitable for web pages, presentations and posters are available under Help Files and FAQs. Security-related programs such as antivirus programs, antispyware programs, or software firewalls can be downloaded from Safe Computing page. Many site license programs can be found at the main UAF Office of Information Technology download site (you must be physically on campus for some of these downloads). Programs licensed under the Shared Use licence can be downloaded from the Concurrent Use download page (make sure you install the key client first, and read the instructions carefully).
If you have questions, comments, or other feedback about this website or IAB computer support, please contact one of the support personnel listed above. To report computer hardware or software problems, please use the Bug Report on the Computer Requests page. If you would like to submit biographical information to the web database, please use the Submit Bio form.
