Malay Archipelago - the narrow straight between Bali and Lombock separates the Asian from the Australian biotas. This is called Wallace's line, after Alfred Russell Wallace, who first documented this biogeographic pattern. I was thrilled to be able to visit islands on both sides of Wallace's line. This was my first visit to this part of world. I was, as usual, chasing certain beetles (Silphidae: Nicrophorus). One species is known from Sumatra, Java, and Bali - so I had to decide which of these islands to visit (it wasn't a hard choice, for obvious reasons!). I also visited Flores, on the east side of Wallace's line.
