All individual requests for space must be submitted to the IAB Space Committee via completion of this online form. For our purposes, "space" refers to additional physical space, not just the addition of new furnishings to accommodate individuals. If you need additional physical space, this is the process by which that request should be made. Space needs for individuals and/or laboratories may change based on the scope of a project, addition of students or personnel, or a variety of other reasons. All requests are submitted to the IAB Space Committee for evaluation, and every attempt is made to achieve a timely resolution, whether it is through allocation of new space, reorganization of existing space, or the acquisition of new space from other departments.

Space Request Review Procedure:
The IAB Space Committee evaluates all space requests and allocation of existing space on behalf of the Institute Director.
In order to ensure that space requests are handled uniformly within IAB, the following procedure will be followed:
- If the request can be met by reassigning existing space within the unit's area, the Committee will approve the request and recommend that the Institute implement the change. A space request may result in a space audit within IAB to determine if assigned space can be reallocated, reconfigured or altered to meet the space request. If so, the Committee will recommend appropriate changes in space allocation, configuration, or alteration to the Institute.
- If the unit is unable to find space in its assigned area, other options will be explored, including, but not limited to, attempting to locate space within another unit and negotiating the space reassignment; and requesting additional space through the UAF Space Committee. This will possibly result in a space audit throughout IAB to determine if space allocated to the unit is being used in the best possible manner.
- If an audit reveals that additional space is required, CASP (Campus and Space Planning) will work with the unit to identify potential space. If space cannot be identified, the unit will have to meet the need using existing space. If new space can be identified, units affected by the proposed space assignment will be advised of the potential reconfiguration and asked for their input. IAB's Space Committee will negotiate the space reassignment with the director of CASP. In the event that the units involved cannot come to an agreement on the reconfiguration, the Provost will make the final determination on the reassignment. If the space involves units other than academic, the appropriate senior level administrator and the Provost will make the final decision.
- The IAB space inventory database will be updated to reflect space use changes. Any changes will also be submitted to the UAF Space Committee for entrance into the UAF database.
